What makes a good commissioner?
My name is Matilda, and I am the Head of Integrated Commissioning for Adult Social Care.
I think it’s fair to say that my educational background is relatively unrelated to the work I do now. After finishing school, I did a degree in modern languages followed by a Master’s Degree in contemporary European culture. I then joined the Council in 2003.
My first role was as an Assistant to a Senior Advisor in the School Improvement Service. The service had taken on a small number of graduates, and as part of that group, I had the opportunity to develop my knowledge of the public sector through working on a variety of projects.
From there, I’ve had a number of different roles in policy and partnerships, equalities, and children’s safeguarding, before settling into my role as Head of Integrated Commissioning.
The progression opportunities are excellent here — I’m currently studying for an MBA through an apprenticeship scheme with the Council’s support.
Good commissioners come from diverse backgrounds, and what I love most about my service is that everyone in the team has different experiences and brings something unique to the table.
