From regular check-ins with managers to access to counseling services, the council prioritises the mental health and overall wellness of its employees through comprehensive programs, supportive management, and access to financial assistance”

After studying for my Undergraduate degree in Psychology and Counselling, I worked at Buckinghamshire for a year in adult services as an Assistant Social Worker. I had other jobs within the industry throughout my studies and went on to do an MA in Social Work, completing my ASYE in another local authority. I then decided to come back to Buckinghamshire.

I’ve always had a passion for helping others, especially vulnerable populations. Social work provides me with the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of children and families, advocating for their well-being and ensuring they have access to necessary resources and support. Every success story, no matter how small, reinforces my commitment to this profession and fuels my passion for making a difference.

As a social worker in the court team, my work directly impacts the lives of Buckinghamshire children and families by advocating for their rights, safety, and well-being. One instance that stands out is when I successfully reunited a child with their biological family. Witnessing the joy and relief on their faces reaffirmed the significance of my role in facilitating positive outcomes.

One thing that has pleasantly surprised me about working for the council is the emphasis on employee well-being. From regular check-ins with managers to access to counseling services, the council prioritises the mental health and overall wellness of its employees through comprehensive well-being programs, supportive management, and access to financial assistance when needed.

My time at Buckinghamshire Council has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside dedicated professionals who share my commitment to serving the community. The supportive environment and resources provided by the council have enabled me to grow both personally and professionally. I am offered a range of support, including ongoing learning and development opportunities to enhance my skills and stay updated on best practices in social work.

I would encourage any candidate considering joining Children’s Social Care at Buckinghamshire Council to seize the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children and families. The supportive environment, ongoing training, and resources provided by the council create a conducive atmosphere for professional growth and fulfillment in this rewarding field.
