I studied chemistry, then worked in the market research industry for almost forty years, before retiring just as the first Lockdown started. I have been involved with Long Crendon School as a parent from 2002 and as a Governor, then Chair of Governors, for the last 14 years.

Governors are the school’s ‘critical friends’. We seek to help, guide, check and challenge as and when necessary. As Chair of Governors, I lead a team of parents, staff, local authority and community colleagues who have a number of statutory duties, plus involvement wherever our help, guidance and expertise can help the school perform better.

I’m not in school every day but do have regular meetings with the Headteacher and Governors plus ad hoc involvement in a wide range of topics and initiatives.

All Governors are volunteers, often with full-time jobs and other calls on their time, meaning that the ability to do their Governor duties can be compromised. The best thing for me is being at school when the children are there. The energy they bring, the achievements they make, and the sight of their happy faces is the real reward for me in doing my role.
