Johnny and Storm Troopers

I have been working in recruitment and HR for the past 12 years…

Before this, I was working in mental health and therapy. I am part-CIPD qualified and have extensive experience in HR and recruitment, as well as mental health.

My typical workday…

On a typical day I will be replying to emails and attending meetings, having an awareness of the day-to-day recruitment landscape, plus chasing up any delayed feedback or communication. As a Resourcing Advisor, I support recruitment operations for agency fulfilment across the Council. This includes reporting and analysing data, promoting and running campaigns, and strengthening links with our partners.

I am a massive Star Wars fan…

I collect memorabilia including figures, and even Lego sets… I am so obsessed with it, it is beyond a joke! From being in the local press as a child for having the biggest Star Wars collection in South Wales, to having a Partner who is named after two characters in Star Wars — Ben, (as in Ben Kenobi), and his middle name is Luke, (after Luke Skywalker). I didn’t know this when we first met until he told me, which is just one of those funny coincidences life sometimes throws at you!

I couldn’t live without music…

In my spare time I produce music and remixes, and also create mixes, which I upload to a site called Mixcloud. I have been DJ’ing since 1995 — my DJ name is ‘Jon:e Goes Mixing’. Since 1995, I have mixed over 450 compilations, and a lot of them are featured on my Mixcloud page.

My DJ name was inspired by music producer, Rollo, one of the original band members of Faithless. His sister is Dido, the singer. Rollo used to release music under different aliases such as ‘Rollo Goes Camping’ or ‘Rollo Goes Mystic’. So, being a huge fan of Faithless, I named myself ‘Jon:e Goes Mixing’ — and that has stuck ever since.

I always listen to music when I am out and about. I really enjoy mixing and producing, and tend to focus on this at the weekends or on a Friday night.

I had my own radio show twice a week…

One of my tracks made it to number 1 out of 1000 for Trance on a website called ‘Number 1 Music’, which was awesome.

You can listen to my music here: https://www.mixcloud.com/jonegoesmixing

I was also in Eastenders back in 1995…

I sat in the Queen Victoria with Ricky and Bianca, I had an agent when I was working and residing at a pub in Chelsea.

Johnny in Eastenders, second right.

One thing I have learnt in the past year…

Make the most of every day and be grateful for all you have.

The best part of my job…

Being part of a great team. I work with passionate people who are dedicated and committed. The roles we try to fill are so important — they can really make a difference and improve lives.

My top tip for anyone coming to work at Buckinghamshire Council?

Live up to the Council’s values (Proud, Ambitious, Collaborative and Trustworthy) behaviours, and try to do your best in all you do. Working at Buckinghamshire Council is a great opportunity. We are very forward-thinking and current with our approach. There is a real sense of being valued and accepted. Plus, there are some great staff networks available, which I think is a very positive and modern benefit to working here.
