Creating a ‘resilient’ future for Buckinghamshire

Now is a really exciting time to join us. We are developing how we work with our teams and communities in creative ways. Being able to help shape this new framework is incredibly exciting and motivating.

As a Resilience Officer, I support the delivery of effective resilience, incident and emergency management through planning, training and exercising across all services, throughout Buckinghamshire. Working at Buckinghamshire Council, I really enjoy making a positive difference to our residents and communities. You get to see, and support, so much good work going on behind the scenes and meet some amazing and professional people. There are also great extra benefits — flexibility, and Staff Networks to help support the truly diverse workforce.

However, the best part about working here is the people, especially my team. We have a huge amount of knowledge and experience between us, and are excited about the developments we are making. We are a very honest, openminded and willing, with a sense of humour and a real connection with the work that we do. There is a real respect within the team for each other, our strengths and development. The creative energy of the team is very positive and contagious. I feel encouraged to play my part and up my game every day. I also love the dedication to learning and the detailed, technical organised side of the work.

We are introducing the ‘One Council Approach’. It means that for Buckinghamshire Council, resilience is everyone’s business. We are all responsible for building resilience into everything we do. For me, it’s about equipping and empowering people to know their risks and understand their strengths and opportunities, so that if anything should happen, there are plans and resources in place to support sustainable readiness, response, and recovery processes. It is a big aspiration to embed this through the whole of the county, but it is about working together, working smarter and putting us (the Resilience Service) ‘out there’ a bit more.
