Communications at Buckinghamshire Council
We have a fantastic opportunity for a new Social Media and Digital Content Lead to join us at Buckinghamshire Council. Within this role you will lead and manage a small, incredibly talented, and enthusiastic team within the Council’s Communications service. We spoke to Milena to find out more about what life is like in the team…
Hi, I’m Milena, Communications Assistant within the Partnerships, Policy and Communications service at Buckinghamshire Council, and I’ve worked here since October 2021.
Before working in the communications field, I studied Multimedia Journalism at University, graduating in 2017. After this, I started my career journey as a Content Writer in London, before moving to work as a Media Assistant, prior to landing a job with the Council. I have also worked as a freelancer and volunteered in various media fields throughout my career — both of which have provided me with lots of interesting and fun experiences!
In my position, I support the News and Media team, as well as the wider Communications team, with day-to-day activities, including media and email monitoring, administrative tasks, as well as logging and maintaining enquiries on our platform. My role is varied, and I help where I can and jump in when needed!
The News and Media team works closely with the Social Media team — so by joining us as the new Social Media and Digital Content Lead, you can expect to be involved with a broad range of initiatives and projects. Together, we organise tweets to go out with the Press Releases, make sure that topics going to the press and residents are promoted online, and that there is a clear vision with each subject, campaign or announcement.
To anyone thinking about applying to join us — we would be glad to welcome you! Whether you know everything about local government or nothing at all, it’s a great career path to step into, and an exciting time to join us. We are a fairly new team, who have welcomed a few new members (myself included) in the last year or so. We have great ideas, a lot of energy and exciting projects that we are working on daily.
As someone who joined relatively recently, I can say that from the start, the team has been extremely welcoming and supportive, which helps everyone who’s stepping into a new role. We all help each other and pull the weight together — and cheer each other on, of course!
