Be part of something bigger
A unique new opportunity has become available at Buckinghamshire Council for Economic Growth and Regeneration. We are hiring a Senior Strategy and Growth Funding Officer to join our dynamic and enthusiastic Strategic Growth and Funding team.
We have an ambitious strategic vision and long-term plan for Buckinghamshire to 2050 and a series of ambitions and priorities running alongside it. In this role, you’ll help deliver these objectives and fantastic outcomes for our county and its residents. We spoke to Sally, Strategic Growth Lead, about her role and what it’s like to be part of this fantastic team:
“I completed an undergraduate degree in Geography at Royal Holloway University of London in 2011, and after graduating, I began a role at the Council within the Policy Strategy and Development business unit. I have always been interested in the impacts that policies have on their local communities and enjoyed being involved in the development of transport strategy development work. From there I had the opportunity to become a member of the Strategic Planning and Infrastructure Team, where I had broader focus on spatial planning priorities for Buckinghamshire.
I really enjoyed working on planning policy, and the Council offered me the chance to undertake a Spatial Planning masters whilst working part-time. I felt fully supported by the organisation during my masters and it hugely benefited me and my role as I was able to develop the knowledge needed whilst still gaining valuable experience in the workplace. Following the unitary process in 2020, I was given the opportunity to become a part of the Economic Growth and Regeneration service as the Strategic Growth Lead for the Council.
The Strategic Growth and Funding Team is a brand-new area within Economic Growth and Regeneration and is an exciting team to be a part of. My role is focussed on helping to deliver the Council’s ambitious strategic vision and long-term plan for Buckinghamshire. I get to be involved in a team where we can influence growth challenges facing our communities and businesses, and I work across a range of teams within the council such as regeneration, transport, health, and planning which I really enjoy.
My responsibilities include developing our strategic vision and strategy work and ensuring wider policies align with our 2050 ambitions. I lead initiatives to support the development of infrastructure and growth across the council, and I get to work collaboratively with a range of external partners.
It’s an exciting and friendly organisation to work for with lots of opportunities to progress and develop your skill set. There is big emphasis on learning and development, as well as flexible working. Working for communities as part of a local authority like Buckinghamshire Council is also hugely rewarding.
The Council provides its staff with the opportunity to have a positive work life balance and general flexibility with work patterns which is a great benefit. After returning from maternity leave, I have been able to organise my work schedule which allows me to the time to deliver my role successfully but also spend time with my children.
I will be forever grateful to the Council for giving me the opportunity to complete my Master’s degree in Spatial Planning. The course was part paid for by the Council, whilst also allowing me the time within my working week to attend lectures and complete assignments. If it had not have been for this support, I would not be in the role that I am today.”
