Meet Jenny, our Head of Legal Services (Non-Contentious)

I am Jenny, and I am the Head of Legal Services (Non-Contentious) at Buckinghamshire Council.

I came here as a school-leaver, straight after my GCSEs. I started in a junior position, and with the support of the Council, I worked my way up to Head of Service.

Working for a local authority, you are able to look around and see the impact of the work that you do. You see housing developments going up and you think, ‘I played a key part in that.’ That’s really rewarding.

In terms of career development, no matter where you are in your career, the Council provides opportunities to improve. They recognise the loyalty they get from ‘growing their own’ talent. Once I was part-qualified, I was given coaching opportunities training juniors, and I gradually moved into a Team Leader role and then to where I am now.

The team has a strong work ethic and is really committed. Of course, we all have our bad days — who doesn’t?! But on the whole, everyone is here because they want to be, and they genuinely enjoy their jobs. We have a great work-life balance which is really important — we trust our staff to take control of this, and I really believe this helps us get the best out of the team.

We’re an expanding team, with lots of room for growth and development. There are always exciting, high-profile projects to get involved in that you might not have had much exposure to in private practice.
